Widows Concern is an offshoot of an entertainment company called VISION AFRICA ENTERTAINMENT LIMITED.

About Us

Vision Africa, registered under CAC no RC 729958 on February 8th, 2008 in Nigeria, began as a sponsor and producer of home movies. The inspiration for Widows Concern Organization came from a poignant real-life story encountered by our crew during a location scouting mission in the southeastern part of Nigeria. While searching for the perfect setting for our film, one of our female crew members met a distressed woman who shared the harrowing conditions she was enduring due to cruel traditional practices.

     Mrs. Ako Bundu

Mrs Ako Bundu had been ostracised by her late husband’s family and forced to sleep in the same room where he was buried, under the belief that his spirit would torment her for allegedly causing his death. While the initial reaction from many of our crew and colleagues was to create a film highlighting these harsh traditions, Chief George Chigbu, moved by deep sorrow and empathy after learning more about her situation, believed that no one should suffer such indignities in this era.

this conviction led to the creation of a television program to spark public discussion and raise awareness about such degrading customs and their psychological impact on widows.

These conversations, furthered by dialogue with legal experts, evolved into what is now the Widows Concern Organization. Our initial objectives were:

  1. To highlight the plight of widows subjected to cruel, inhumane traditions that strip them of their rights.
  2. To educate widows and society about preventive measures against issues associated with widowhood.
  3. To support the welfare of widows, their children, and other underprivileged individuals.
  4. To urge government and societal support for the establishment of a social welfare platform for widows in Nigeria.

We are proud to say that we have significantly achieved our goals, inspiring several state governments to abolish outdated practices detrimental to widows’ welfare by passing laws that penalize such harmful traditions in Nigeria
